Faery art.  The Stash is accepting entries for an exhibit based on Austin folklore of faeries brought to the area by Irish immigrants in the late 1800’s.

What is now south-central Austin , the trendy Bouldin Creek neighborhood between South Congress & South Lamar, the heart of 78704, used to have another pulse entirely.  Originally owned by the Dawson & Bouldin families, once split & developed became what were considered the Irish flats.  The Irish immigrants boarded the modest pier & beam homes to work on the Austin & Northwestern Rail line from Smithville to Bertram.  As the story goes, these immigrants are responsible for bringing faeries from their homelands.  Just north of Gibson Street , the water of Bouldin creek runs under S. 1st Street .  To the west you will find the habitat of these faeries along with pixies, pookas, sprites, elves, gnomes and their other magical friends.  The Stash is calling all faeries … er, artists to please submit your work of all things faeries.  Please e-mail photos and include your name, phone number & description of work (including dimensions) no later than August 31, 2006.
