THE ART OF SCIENCE
Teacher turns collection of vintage educational filmstrips into art. Austin, TX – November ’06 – For thirteen years Chris Moore taught 6th grade Science at Bedichek M.S. here in Austin. Mr. Moore came to a point in his career where he wanted to try his hand at a business idea he had been thinking about for quite sometime. Armed with an extensive collection of vintage educational filmstrips and vintage teaching materials, Chris started the company Droppin’ Science. He turned his collection of vintage teaching material into affordable art. The art works in a variety of different spaces. Customers range from children to nostalgic boomers to hip urban types or just plain old science geeks. In addition to purchasing the art, one can also purchase t-shirts, download the restored vintage filmstrips or buy them on dvd at his website: www.droppinscience.net These filmstrips not only give you an education and a peek at the past, but they’re also quite funny. With titles like, Glue Sniffing - Big Trouble in a Small Tube, Why Not Marijuana? and The Popularity Parade, Chris figured he had something that others would also enjoy. The website is colorful and an easy to navigate site. There are about 80 pieces of art to view and purchase, 13 filmstrips to download individually or purchase on one dvd, as well as t-shirts. Because of the size of the company, custom work such as color altering, framing/mounting, and resizing can all be done. Mr. Moore to his students and Chris to his friends spent thirteen years doing his best to sell knowledge to his students. Now, he spends his time creating and selling art to all of us.
